The local government spokeswoman, Lourdes Caselles, demands "equal treatment" from the Ministry, which has responded to the same request made by other municipalities in the region
Ther Ministry of Transport denies again the transfer of the section of the N-332 as it passes through Benidorm
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through the General Directorate of Highways, has once again rejected the request for the free assignment of the section of the N-332 road that runs between kilometer points 149,200 and 152,360 in the municipality of Benidorm . A petition that was fully approved last December.
It is the second time that the Ministry denies the City Council's request. The first time was after another request approved in plenary session in September 2020 and at that time the General Directorate of Highways reported that the requested section "did not meet the requirements" established in the Highway Law to be delivered to the City Council.
On this occasion, the Ministry indicates that the aforementioned section "does not meet the condition of an urban road" and specifies that it is "a road with total limitation and accesses and exists at different levels, integrated into a route of general interest, which supports intense traffic and constitutes an indispensable complement in the transport system of the European itinerary”.
The Ministry understands, according to this resolution, that the requested section "requires joint management of the AP-7 with the N-332 as a distribution route to the regional, provincial and municipal networks", which is "incompatible with the transfer of its individual elements.
The local government spokeswoman, Lourdes Caselles, today lamented the response of the General Directorate of Roads, because it will prevent "the improvement of mobility, accessibility and lighting of this section." The councillor has indicated that the City Council feels "scorned and punished" by the Ministry because "other municipalities have achieved it".
“They demand obligations from us that do not correspond to us, while other localities obtain everything they ask for and also finance it,” said Caselles, who has demanded “equal treatment” and “diligence” in the files processed by the City Council “because they are fundamental for urban development and our General Plan”.
Caselles has added that the municipal management of this section of road would allow, among other issues, "to unblock the industrial estate" and "make the expansion of the cemetery viable"; provide a "new exit" to La Huerta; “improve the image at the junction of the bypass with the Trinquet area”; and reduce accidents and accidents.
However, the councilor has concluded. "Our surprise has been enormous because in this second request we understood that we did comply with what the Highway Law establishes, as is the case with other neighboring municipalities."
