Sant Antoni celebra este sábado la tradicional ‘Cagà de la burra’ en la Ermita de Sanz

San Antoni 2026 Festivities Commission will celebrate the traditional "Cagà de la burra" (Donkey's Pooping) this coming Saturday, September 6th. For the fourth consecutive year, the event will take place at Ermita de Sanz. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will offer bar service at affordable prices, sandwiches, drinks, traditional food, music in the afternoon, and all-day fun.

"La cagà de la burra" (Donkey's Pooping) was first held in 2014 by one of the Commission members, José Fuster, although it ceased to be held until it was revived four years ago. The "activity" consists of dividing a piece of land into small numbered plots, within which the animal will be placed. The plots are numbered, and residents can purchase tickets with the numbers. The prize will be won by whoever buys the ticket corresponding to the number of the plot where the donkey makes its final bowel movements.

As stated in the contest's sole rules, the winning plot will be the one with the greatest amount of excrement in the animal's first bowel movement. It is even stated that a scale will be used if necessary.

The prize for the winning ticket holder will be 1,200 euros, and each ticket will cost ten euros. The land will be divided, as on other occasions, into 500 small plots, through which the donkey will move until it completes its mission.

Both the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and the President of the Commission, Irene Maris, encouraged all Benidorm residents to come to the Ermita de Sanz on Saturday, the 6th, to spend a very fun day, with a great atmosphere, and which will also help organise the Sant Antoni festival."

In addition, this year there will be a breakfast buffet with sandwiches, salad, coffee, and shots, for which a ticket for twelve euros can be purchased. The Commission has announced that this year there will also be a paella tasting.
