The mayor and the councilor for the Environment today handed over the keys to the facilities to people and entities who will have a plot

Open the new urban gardens in l'Horta

19 July 2022
Huertos Urbanos.

The new urban gardens enabled by the Department of the Environment in the l'Horta area are already operational. The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillor of the department, Mónica Gómez, today handed over the keys to the facilities to the people and entities that from now on will be in charge of cultivating these gardens, located on a municipal plot in Camí de la Parva, in La Almafrà district, in whose creation the municipal Technical Services brigade and the students of the Escola d'Ocupación Et Formen Benidorm II have participated.

Toni Pérez has indicated that "in this area of l'Horta we have set up 49 plots, in addition to those already in operation in the neighbourhoods of Els Tolls and La Cala, adding more than 120 urban gardens distributed throughout the city, thus favouring that people registered in Benidorm have a space in which to practice organic farming and self-consumption and in which at the same time they can live together and share experiences”.

The mayor recalled that "the 40 people who have requested one of these new urban gardens have received a plot, the same as l'Horta Neighborhood Association"

In addition to the mayor and the councillor for the Environment, the councillors of Citizenship Participation and Urban Scene, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González de Zárate, also attended this handover of the keys; as well as the vice president of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido.

The area of the urban gardens of the Camí de la Parva is fenced off and has an exclusive access gate for the owners of the gardens. An area of aromatic plants with species such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil or mint has also been set up on the plot to avoid as much as possible the presence of pests that affect the crops.

The winners of these urban gardens and the members of the l'Horta Neighborhood Association will receive a training talk on organic farming next week by the City Council's agronomist.

In addition to the keys to the facilities, the beneficiaries of these urban gardens have signed the agreement in which the rules of use and the regulations of the same are collected.

The Councilor for the Environment has indicated that "an extraordinary period will be opened shortly so that all those who wish can request one of the 8 plots that are still free in this area of urban gardens in l'Horta".
