From today until April 7, traffic will be restored on the section between Rome and Berlin
Montecarlo Avenue, open to traffic during Holy Week
In anticipation of Holy Week, Montecarlo Avenue will reopen to traffic this Friday, March 27, and will remain closed until April 7, as announced today by the Public Works Department. During this period, the avenue's renovation project, spearheaded by the Water Cycle Department, will be suspended and will resume after Holy Week.
According to the councillor for the department, José Ramón González de Zárate, "In recent days, work has been underway to temporarily reopen the avenue to traffic. It is one of the main thoroughfares in the upper part of Rincón de Loix, an area with many second homes, tourist apartments, and hotels that reach maximum occupancy during Holy Week." He added, "By temporarily reopening the section that was closed, between Roma and Berlín streets, we are improving traffic flow in this part of Rincón de Loix during the holiday period."
González de Zárate noted that the ongoing works consist of the renovation of drinking water and sanitation infrastructure on Montecarlo Avenue, in the section between Berlin Street and Roma Avenue, continuing the work already completed in the section between Paris Street and Roma Avenue.
“Since last November, the work has focused on the underground infrastructure, with the replacement of pipes, working between 4 and 5 meters below the surface,” with 70% of this work now complete. The councilman explained that “once all the hydraulic work is 100% complete, the project will enter the urban landscape phase with accessibility improvements, paving, and tree planting.”
Finally, he pointed out that “with summer approaching, the other major holiday period of the year, we will study ways to reconcile the progress of the work with the increase in tourist activity, and therefore the increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic.”
