Toni Pérez participates in the fifth #encuentrosiambiente with his counterparts from Alicante and Torrevieja and the deputy for Innovation
The mayor analyzes in a provincial meeting the digitalization progress in the Administration
The mayor, Toni Pérez, has analyzed the progress of the digitalisation of the local Administration, "a path that Benidorm started four years ago" and that took a major boost during the process that has led the city to become the first Tourist Destination Smart (DTI) certified world. This has been transferred by the mayor during the fifth #encuentrosmedioambiente where the acceleration of the digitization of municipal services during the Covid-19 health crisis has been addressed, among other issues, and in which has also participated the provincial deputy of Innovation and Digital Agenda, Adrián Ballester; the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala; and the first mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón.
During this digital meeting, Toni Pérez pointed out that "the pandemic and the confinement" have led citizens to become active even in the use of technologies "to make essential efforts", which "has led to exponentially growing data" in the activity of the Municipal Website, which in the last two years had been registering an increase "of 40%".
In this period, he has deepened, "the Administration, also the local one, has kept all possible services active using technology", thus giving "the response expected by the citizens". An Administration, has assured, that "until now it had been a bit in tow" and that "if it now adopts cruising speed, it will be able to consolidate its modernization and live up to what the public expects, although unfortunately this level is reached as a result of a pandemic that is having an immense social cost ”.
In the course of this meeting, and through the experiences presented by the participants, it has been found that the province of Alicante is positioned among the most outstanding European regions in digitization. In fact, the province is selected within the challenge of the hundred smart territories promoted by the European Commission.
Within this consideration, Benidorm is revealed as a spearhead for its status as the first DTI, whose deployment and implementation is marked by a Master Plan that, as the mayor has explained, “due to the pandemic we have had to redirect, introducing also the health axis, to make Benidorm a DTI + Safe ".
