María Zaragoza and Bárbara Pérez honored in Benidorm on the Constitution Day

Benidorm has celebrated the forty-third anniversary of the Spanish Constitution with an institutional act at Plaza de la Hispanidad in which the City Council has delivered, from the hands of the mayor, Toni Pérez, the Corporate Medal of the city to the first democratically elected councilors in the city, María Zaragoza Lloret and Bárbara Pérez Llinares. Toni Pérez has vindicated the value of the Transition that made the constitutional framework possible and "without which the democratic system in which we operate cannot be explained", which emerged in 1978 with "the desire to advance towards the future." The mayor of Benidorm has opted to continue advancing within this framework and municipalities "in a second decentralization" that allows "to pay better attention to our neighbors."
The first mayor, has congratulated the winners with the Corporate Medal of the city and has also transferred this recognition to the State Security Forces and Bodies that protect "the free exercise of rights and freedoms" while guaranteeing citizen security .

Finally, Toni Pérez, has made an appeal "to preserve the legacy of the Magna Carta" which maintains "all its strength and democratic vigor 43 years later."

Equipo de salvamento

En nombre del equipo de salvamento, Alejandro Ortiz ha agradecido la condecoración y la ha hecho extensible “al resto de compañeros” de los equipos de salvavidas de la ciudad sobre quienes recae la “gran responsabilidad” de velar por la vida de “los miles de personas que visitan nuestras playas”.

Ortiz ha abogado porque el reconocimiento público “sirva para que engrandezca la imagen de los socorristas” siempre pendientes de la seguridad de los bañistas, aunque su trabajo “no sea siempre captado por las cámaras”, como lo sucedido en pasado 14 de septiembre con el arrojo demostrado que puso en peligro la vida de todo el equipo por rescatar a una turista que se debatía entre las olas.

Las primeras ediles democráticas

En nombre de María Zaragoza, su hija Dolores Llinares, se ha dirigido a los presentes para agradecer el reconocimiento público. Ha recordado que hoy “se habla del empoderamiento de las mujeres y del desfase que sigue habiendo hay entre los ritmos de la evolución entre hombres y mujeres”. Dolores Llinares ha enfatizado que es en las mujeres donde “recae la responsabilidad de las conquistas” sociales.

De María, su madre, ha puesto en valor “su energía, ilusión y carisma” que “han impregnado” toda su vida “como maestra, empresaria o realizando labores sociales”. Y, sobre todo eso, su “amor por su pueblo”, Benidorm.

También ha tomado la palabra Bárbara Pérez, que, a punto de cumplir ochenta años, se ha mostrado agradecida “a la vida” y a aquellos con quienes la comparte. Personas de quienes afirma haber aprendido
“valores y convicciones que aún hoy me acompañan”. “Siempre –ha subrayado– he intentado aportar mi granito de arena para que mi pueblo fuera mejor.

Bárbara Pérez ha recordado a sus compañeros de la corporación municipal de 1979 que “salvo María y yo, todos varones”, y a todas las personas que a lo largo de “la historia de nuestro pueblo se han esforzado por hacer lo mejor por Benidorm”. Por último, la galardonada ha lanzado un mensaje a los más jóvenes para animarlos a no renunciar a “alcanzar su sueño por muy grande que este sea” y que siempre aspiren a construir “una mejor sociedad y hacer un Benidorm cada día mejor”.
