Three containers have been installed for glass, two for containers and one more for cardboard paper with a capacity of 3,700 liters each

La Constitución Square opens new underground containers and doubles the capacity for waste collection

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Road Cleaning, has completely renewed the waste collection at Plaza de la Constitución with the installation of six new underground containers that significantly improve the image of the area and significantly expand the capacity of collection until almost doubling it.

This is the sixth point in which underground recycling containers have been renewed or installed, in addition to those installed in recent weeks in l'Hort de Colón, Ramos Carratalá, Emilio Ortuño, Plaza del Infant, and Avenida Beniardá.

These new containers have already entered service today. Specifically, there are three containers for the collection of glass, two for containers, and one for cardboard. The collection of organic waste will continue to be carried out through the 'remove and put' system "which is giving such good results", as pointed out by the Councilor for Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The capacity of each of the containers is 3,700 liters, so the total number of liters at this point amounts to 22,200. Before these new containers, there were only four installed (two glass, one container, and one cardboard) that reached a maximum of 3,000 liters each, for a total of 12,000.

"We wanted to be able to work at Plaza de la Constitución, the neighbors have claimed a lot of it, also the owners of establishments and the people who visit us" indicated the mayor, who added that "it could not be that we have a place in the center of the city and at all hours they were taking out paper, glass or containers, with the noise that it generates, nor that the establishments take out their garbage at any time ”.

With the new containers, González de Zárate continued, "We have practically doubled the capacity that existed, but we also maintain the 'remove and put' system for organic waste that is working very well". In addition to increasing the collection capacity "in the area of the city where the most recycling is generated because it serves the entire old town", there are other positive aspects such as "improving the image and allowing people to enjoy this place and don't have as many difficulties as up to now."

The good experience with the renovation and extension of underground containers will continue with new facilities "and soon a new point will be a reality at the junction of Avenida de l'Aigüera with Plaza de los Carrascos" the councilor advanced "because the results are very positive”.
