The Jacobean rowing and walking route of Anémona expedition arrives in Santiago de Compostela on Saturday

Anémona, the Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynecological Cancer of Benidorm, has set itself a challenge in this Compostela Holy Year 2021: to travel the distance that separates the capital of the Costa Blanca from Santiago de Compostela in a virtual way with machines rowing and the last two stages rowing and walking.

Anémona is hardened by rowing in open water after years sailing in Benidorm Bay in a felucca, an exercise that produces beneficial effects in people who have suffered from the disease. The association proposed the realization of the route virtually, with rowing machines and end the route at Plaza del Obradoiro, in front of the Cathedral of Santiago.

In the month of June, and by teams, Anémona began her particular pilgrimage, which has been supported by Benidorm Yacht Club and the City Council, which has collaborated with the association. In fact, Mariló Cebreros and Ángela Llorca, councilors for Sports and Social Welfare, have joined the expedition in Galician lands.

Cebreros thanked Anémona "for having allowed us to be part of a challenge that is going to be a new milestone for all the women of Anémona and Benidorm". The head of Sports has valued "the courage" of a group that "has managed to overcome pain with effort and that, once again, are an example for everyone."

For her part, Angela Llorca has indicated that the City Council's support for Anemone is "total". "With this initiative - she has emphasized - they are walking the name of Benidorm throughout the Jacobean route." In fact, on Wednesday the expedition was received by the mayor of Padrón (A Coruña), Antonio Fernández Angueira, who exchanged gifts with the councilors of Benidorm and wished the expedition the greatest success.
Tomorrow, Anémona will begin the last phase of her peculiar Jacobean route through the Mar de Arousa, by rowing from Villajuan (Pontevedra). It will go through the Pontevedra towns of Vilagarcía de Arousa, Carril, Catoira and Pontecesures and will end in Padrón.

The last stage of the trip will be carried out on foot, on Saturday, from Padrón in La Coruña to the capital of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela. It will be 25 kilometers on foot that will end with a visit to el Pórtico de la Gloria. On Sunday there will be a religious ceremony in the cathedral and an offering to the apostle, after which the expedition will return to Benidorm by bus.
