The new series of TVE starring Paz Vega is filmed in the city for six weeks

The 'Fugitiva' team says that Benidorm is "a very important character in the series"

20 February 2018
El equipo de ‘Fugitiva’ afirma que Benidorm es “un personaje importantísimo en la serie”

The artistic and technical team of 'Fugitiva', the new fiction for La 1 produced by RTVE in collaboration with the Ganga Group and which has been shooting in Benidorm since last week and until mid-March, has halted its activity to advance at press conference some details of the series. A press conference in which the leading actress of 'Fugitiva', Paz Vega; the creator of the series, Joaquín Oristrell; the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; and TVE's director of Fiction, Fernando López Puig.

During his speech López Puig stressed that "Benidorm is one more character" of the series, "very important in the development of all the action and the whole plot." In fact, he said that the story of 'Fugitiva' "would not be the same without Benidorm", as the city has provided "the environment that can lead to action and the vicissitudes" of this 'thriller', which will be broadcast in 'prime time'.

In fact, the 'skyline' of Benidorm is part of the promotional image of the series, in which Paz Vega appears with the actors Roberto Álamo and Julio Bracho.

The creator of the series, for his part, ensured that in this production "Benidorm will come out particularly well, very beautiful and very pleasant to visit". Thus, throughout the chapters will be shown spaces such as the beaches of Benidorm, the surroundings of Serra Gelada, or the center of the city.

Oristrell added that 'Fugitive' is rolled in the city "by the effort of many people", and more concretely of the Town hall, Benidorm Film Office, Visit Benidorm Foundation and the hospital patronage Hosbec.

An effort, which also highlighted the mayor and has influenced the history of Benidorm and 'Fugitiva', a common feature: "the strength of women", which in the case of tourist municipality have contributed to make Benidorm "a pioneer city, accustomed to offer happiness, and with a history of more than 60 years of hospitality".

The actress Paz Vega, who affirmed that "staying in Benidorm is wonderful" , referred to that hospitality, and stressed the understanding of residents and tourists before a shooting of these characteristics. A shoot with a technical, artistic and production team that exceeds a hundred people and for which more than 1,000 extras, mostly from Benidorm have been hired.

Pérez emphasized that Benidorm continues to "bet very strongly on the audiovisual sector", since the economic and promotional impact is high. Thus, it is estimated that the recording of 'Fugitiva' will have an impact on the city of around 600,000 euros.

Plot and distribution of 'Fugitive'

This ten-episode thriller between Mexico and Spain focuses on Magda, a woman who is forced to make a drastic decision when her world breaks into pieces and she longs to regain control of her life. Directed by Sergio Cabrera, Belén Macías and Antonio Cuadri, the series recreates 90 crucial hours for Magda and people related to her. The large proportion of exteriors make 'Fugitiva' a luminous fiction and spirit that transgresses the genre.

In addition to Paz Vega, Roberto Álamo and Julio Bracho, Mercedes Sampietro, Charo López, José Manuel Poga, Arantza Ruiz, Luisa Rubino, Iván Pellicer, Lander Otaola, Pedro Mari Sánchez, Melina Matthews and Raúl Mérida are part of the cast.
