Daniel Oyarzábal, protagonist of the second concert in Benidorm International Organ Festival

The prestigious Basque organist Daniel Oyarzábal will be the star of the second concert of the XII Benidorm International Organ Festival, an event that will take place tomorrow, Friday, in the parish church of San Jaime starting at 8 p.m. The activity, like all those organized by the Department of Culture of Benidorm City Council, will be free until the capacity of the church is reached.

The program that Oyarzábal will perform will be composed of the following works: 'Fantasía Super Komm, Heiliger Gesist', 'Wachet auf, ruf uns die Stimme' and 'Toccata y Fuga en r menor' by Johann Sebastian Bach, 'Toccata de la Sinfonía V ' by Charles Marie Widor, 'Preludio y Fuga en re menor' by Felix Mendelssohn, 'Verset (Book 5)' by Alexander Guilmant, 'Toccata de la Suite Gótica' by Leon Boëllmann, 'La muerte de Asse by Peer Gynt' by Edward Grief and 'Obertura de la urraca ladrona' by Gioachino Rossini.

Daniel Oyarzábal, from Vitoria-Gasteiz, graduated cum laude in clave and organ. Later he trained in Vienna, The Hague and Amsterdam. He was awarded the Special Press Prize at the National Table for Young Performers in Ibiza, second prize in Sight Reading and Reading of Orchestral Scores at the Austrian Interconservatory Competition, first prize in Improvisation at the International Competition of Music of Rome and third prize in the XIX International Organ Competition of Nijmegen, Holland, being the only Spanish organist awarded in the history of the competition.

He is also the principal organist of the National Orchestra of Spain, organist of the Getafe Cathedral and professor of the Degree in Contemporary Music Composition at TAI Escuela Universitaria de Artes de Madrid. He is also the artistic coordinator of the 'Bach Vermut organ concert cycle at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid.
