The cemeteries in Benidorm, ready for the festivity of ‘All Saints’

The two cemeteries in Benidorm, Virgen del Sufragio and Sant Jaume, are ready to receive the large influx of people expected on the occasion of ‘All Saints’ festival and the days before it. The City Council carries out a continuous effort to improve the graveyards, which increase with the proximity of these dates.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, accompanied by the Councilor for Cemeteries, Ángela Llorca and several members of the corporation, visited both facilities this morning, where he highlighted the “specific tasks” that have been carried out in recent days with the view putting into "having adequate logistics in the face of the influx of public, but also at a time, that of the pandemic, in which the attention of services has been more necessary than on other occasions".
Pérez stressed that the care of cemeteries goes "beyond pure aesthetics" and stressed that the main thing is "to guarantee the capacity of burials and undertake actions that go beyond the usual maintenance".
Thus, in the Virgen del Sufragio cemetery, improvements have been made to the windows of the chapel, new paint in the sacristy, new lights and improvements to the electrical installation. Access ramps have been placed within the perimeter to improve accessibility "to the extent that a cemetery that is already a hundred years old allows it" and one of the fountains inside has been channeled.
The most noteworthy "and complicated" action, however, has been the restoration of one of the perimeter walls "which entailed great difficulty due to the proximity of funerary elements and tombstones" explained the mayor, who also highlighted the "excellent" finishing the job.
In the Sant Jaume cemetery, Pérez recalled the "great investment" made in the last four years to expand the number of niches and the current perimeter, whose project will be presented shortly "and will allow the surface of the cemetery to double and count with new services that are in high demand ”. The first mayor has also outlined that the new cemetery already has open accesses from the industrial estate.
As for the schedules for these days, from Saturday October 30 to Tuesday November 2, the cemeteries will remain open uninterrupted from eight in the morning until 20 hours "so that there is a sufficient amplitude of hours and that people can go without crowds and with all the facilities because they are very special dates that in Benidorm cause many visits ”.
The bus service will be the same as last year. From the 28th to the 30th of this month there will be a one way service to the Sant Jaume cemetery at 9.15 from Bonanza and at 9.30 from the Center and the return will be at 12.00.
On October 31 and November 2 there will be departure from Bonanza at 10.30, 11.30, 16.30 and 17.30. From the Center the departure will be ten minutes after each Bonanza departure. The return bus will depart from the cemetery at 11:00, 12:00, 17:00 and 18:00.
On November 1, the departure from Bonanza will take place every half hour from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and the departure from the Center will be ten minutes after each departure from Bonanza. The return bus will leave at the exact hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
As for the masses, on the 1st one will be celebrated in the Sant Jaume cemetery at 12.30 pm and another on the 2nd at 5.30 pm. In the Virgen del Sufragio cemetery the religious ceremony will be at 5:00 p.m. on November 1.
