This drop, which is added to the one already applied this year, reduces the tax rate to 0.667 and breaks the barrier of 400 euros of average receipt

Benidorm will lower the IBI receipt for the second consecutive year

21 October 2022
Benidorm rebajará el recibo del IBI por segundo año consecutivo

For the second consecutive year, Benidorm City Council is going to lower the IBI tax rate, as announced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez. This reduction will become effective in the receipt for the year 2023 and is added to the one applied already this year and which reduced the IBI tax rate from 0.682 to 0.670, maintaining the 75% receipt discount for large families. Now, in addition to maintaining that bonus, "we are going to lower the rate to 0.667."

The mayor explained that "until now the average IBI receipt in Benidorm was above 400 euros." “However –he specified-, with this new drop we break that barrier of 400 euros”.

Toni Pérez has stressed that "in 2019 we promised to progressively reduce the tax burden of families and companies and we are doing so". "We also apply this reduction in the IBI at a time when the general economic situation is leading other administrations to increase tax rates and rates or as an alternative to freezing them", he stressed.

As explained by the mayor, "this tax cut is possible because in the last seven years there has been a planned and responsible management of municipal resources." “The first step was the clean-up of the accounts of this City Council, with an unprecedented reduction in municipal debt, which allowed us to cancel the Adjustment Plan in advance in 2020, the same one that prevented lowering taxes until 2024. Once achieved that double objective of debt reduction and early cancellation of the Adjustment Plan, we have been able to tackle a serious and responsible reduction of the tax burden that has already become effective this year and will continue in 2023”, he specified.

At this point, Toni Pérez recalled that "just like last year, the IBI reduction proposal that will be voted on in the next plenary session will entail the commitment to continue with this tax reduction strategy in the coming years."

Finally, the mayor stressed that "when proposing this new drop in the IBI, we have also acted with all caution in the face of the uncertain situation that the Spanish economy is experiencing and to guarantee that we continue to comply with the measures to control the spending, that we do not affect the services provided by the City Council, and we do not renounce the numerous investments to improve the city, giving priority to those that are affected with European funds and that has cost so much effort to achieve, such as EDUSI, the Tourism Sustainability or the projects financed together with the IDAE”.
