This body aims to develop initiatives to create security and quality employment in the region, and municipalities, unions and companies are represented in it

Benidorm will be part of the Marina Baixa Employment covenant

20 February 2023
Ayuntamiento de Benidorm

Benidorm City Council is going to be part of the Marina Baixa Territorial Pact for Employment, a body in the process of being set up with the aim of "developing innovative initiatives to create stable and quality employment in the region". This has been advanced by the Councilor for Employment and Local Development, Mónica Gómez, who has detailed that "in the next plenary session the participation of Benidorm in this body will be approved, in which, in addition to the 18 municipalities of the region, the two majority unions and the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community”.

Gómez recalled that "at the local level, the Benidorm City Council permanently develops actions aimed at generating employment, improving the employability of unemployed people and promoting entrepreneurship, through various programs, plans, and employment workshops and requesting all possible help to carry them out.

"Although at the moment Benidorm indeed registers the lowest unemployment figure since 2008 -he added-, being the economic engine of the region, it is essential to continue working to improve these data and generate a scenario that favors the creation of more jobs of work and that these, in addition, are of the best quality”. For this, she specified, "the joint and coordinated work of all the agents involved is essential: administrations, workers' representatives and companies".

Broadly speaking, the Marina Baixa Territorial Pact for Employment "will act as a facilitator of local or supra-municipal projects that have a positive impact on the territory" and "will carry out projects linked to the labor insertion of unemployed people".

As established in the agreement establishing the Pact, the first action will be to carry out "a study of the socioeconomic and labor situation" of the municipalities of the Marina Baixa, collecting "their sources of employment and possible sources of labor insertion", paying special attention to the insertion of "women and people over 45 years of age", as they are the groups most affected by unemployment.

“Training programs” will also be promoted that “make it possible to optimize the relationship between supply and demand in the labor market”, especially among the young population. Among the objectives of the Plan is, in addition, "to promote entrepreneurship and the creation and consolidation of SMEs"; as well as "implement plans and actions to value the tourist resources of the region" and "design projects and actions that revitalize the primary sector" valuing and professionalizing its trades".

The person in charge of Employment and Local Development added that "Benidorm has always supported and even promoted, the creation of bodies that contribute to structuring the territory and making the region, so this Territorial Pact for Employment is in tune with what that we have always promulgated from the city”.
