These funds will reinforce resources to address the effects of Covid-19, cases of energy poverty and the reception of refugees from Ukraine

Benidorm receives half a million euros from the Provincial Council to increase Social Welfare resources

Benidorm recibe de la Diputación medio millón de euros para incrementar los recursos de Bienestar Social

The Benidorm City Council has received from the Provincial Council of Alicante a grant of just over half a million euros that will increase the resources of the Department of Social Welfare for extraordinary benefits aimed at alleviating the effects of Covid-19, cases of energy poverty or attend to the reception of refugees from Ukraine.

This nominative grant of 502,374 euros is divided into two concepts. On the one hand, the Provincial Council of Alicante grants 295,514 euros to cover expenses related to social benefits for extraordinary situations, made between October 2021 and September 2022 to minimize the consequences of the pandemic. This section includes home help for elderly people with disabilities or a situation of dependency; aid to guarantee the coverage of basic needs of families; and the reinforcement of personnel from the Department.

The second amount, of 206,860 euros, includes expenses incurred for the reception of refugees from Ukraine or to manage situations of energy poverty, from October last year to the end of September 2022.

The mayor of Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca, explained that "both subsidies come to reinforce care and aid programs in which the City Council works throughout the year or lines of action launched in recent months to deal with unforeseen situations such as those caused by the war in Ukraine.

Ella Llorca recalled that “in the 2022 budget there is an item of 610,000 euros to deal with social emergency aid, whether for food needs, housing or energy costs, for example; an amount that is now going to be increased with the funds contributed by the Provincial Council of Alicante”.

Likewise, it has specified that “apart from this important item of social care, since the outbreak of the war, the Department has allocated financial resources to urgent expenses to care for refugees from Ukraine and also to assist people who needed it at home. due to Covid-19”.
