Benidorm pays tribute to the victims of the Covid-19 this Tuesday, March 14

Homanaje víctimas covid

Benidorm City Council pays tribute this Tuesday, March 14, to the victims of Covid-19, in an act scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at the junction of Armada Española and Villajoyosa avenues. This act in memory of people who lost their lives due to the virus is celebrated coinciding with the third anniversary of the day that the closure of Benidorm beaches was decreed, the city's main resource and meeting point for residents and tourists. Five days after that date, on March 19, 2020, the first fatality of Covid-19 in the city was officially registered.

In addition to remembering and honoring the victims, this act also serves as a tribute to the people in Benidorm for their "exemplary behavior" throughout the pandemic and especially during the hard times of lockdown.

In December 2020, on the occasion of the Day of the Spanish Constitution, Benidorm already paid a first tribute to healthcare workers, police, and all those services of essential nature for the work carried out during the period of lockdown established by the State of Alarm, due to of the health alert. In that act, the mayor, Toni Pérez, anticipated that "as soon as the circumstances arise, Benidorm will honor its victims in an institutional and solemn act." A tribute that arrives this Tuesday, March 14, three years after the advent of the pandemic and once the worst moments of the health crisis have been overcome.

The mayor invited the public "to join tomorrow in this tribute and memory of the victims of Covid-19, of which there will be permanent testimony in Benidorm".
