Benidorm joins 'Earth Hour' this year and switches off some of its most iconic venues
Benidorm City Council joined the "Earth Hour" initiative today, Saturday, for another year, a global initiative promoted by WWF. It aims to turn off the lights of the most iconic landmarks around the world for 60 minutes as a symbol of the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. Launched 18 years ago in Sydney, "Earth Hour" was celebrated this Saturday, March 22, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
During those 60 minutes, Benidorm City Council turned off the lights at some of the city's most iconic and emblematic sites, including El Tossal, El Castell, the façade of the Town Hall, the Cruz de la Serra Gelada monument, the ornamental lighting on the wall of Paseo de Poniente, and the light garland on Paseo de Levante. The aim is to draw the attention of residents and tourists to the environmental degradation the planet is suffering and give it an hour of respite.
