The works, which will prevent flooding when it rains heavily, also include the surfacing of Nápoles Street and Camí del Torrers and will be completed before the end of the month

Benidorm improves pedestrian mobility and the stormwater network on Severo Ochoa section closest to what is known as 'El Niño Curve'

Benidorm mejora la movilidad peatonal y la red de pluviales del tramo de Severo Ochoa más próximo a la conocida como ‘Curva de El Niño’

Benidorm City Council is acting on the section of Severo Ochoa Avenue closest to what is known as 'El Niño Curve' with a double purpose: to improve pedestrian mobility with the creation of two new intermediate zebra crossings and also to reinforce the network of rainwater to avoid flooding when it rains heavily. This was stated today by the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, who explained that this action will be completed “before the end of July.”

As confirmed by the mayor, the new pipes and rainwater collection systems have already been installed in front of the access to the Benidorm campsite and the work is now located right on the 'El Niño Curve'. The new elevated pedestrian crossings will be located at both points, thus also reducing the speed of vehicles that circulate along this section.”

González de Zárate has reported that "once the installation work on the stormwater network is completed, we will proceed, probably in the middle of next week, to pave the entire section of Severo Ochoa Avenue affected by the works, as well as the Camí dels Torrers and Nápoles Street, which currently has irregularities in the pavement.”

The mayor explained that "it has been decided to carry out these works at this time, taking advantage of the fact that road traffic decreases due to the end of the ordinary activity of the educational centres located on the avenue." He has also clarified that "to avoid traffic cuts or possible delays, the action is being carried out in phases and also at night as far as possible."

González de Zárate recalled that "months ago we already acted on the previous section of Severo Ochoa Avenue to commission the second wastewater delivery line to the treatment plant", a vital action that guarantees that at all times these waters reach their destination, even if there is a breakdown in the main line. This secondary line has been essential during the first stages of the work to adapt and improve the pumping stations.

In addition, a pedestrian roundabout has also been configured in the area to facilitate traffic flow.
