Benidorm hosts an informative talk on the right to vote of international residents in municipal elections
On December 1, the Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council hosts an informative talk aimed at international residents about their right to vote in the municipal elections of May 28, 2023. The talk, organized by Alicante Provincial Council with the collaboration of the Department of Foreign Residents, will last one hour, will begin at 10:30 am, and will be held in Spanish and English.
The councilor for the department, Ana Pellicer, detailed that the talk will be given by the British vice-consul in Alicante, Sara Munsterhjelm, and Brahim el Habib Draoui, from Babelia association, who "will explain to the attendees the requirements and the procedure that they must follow in order to vote.
In this regard, Pellicer has advanced that "during the talk, special attention will be paid to the conditions and procedures that citizens from the United Kingdom have to carry out to participate in these elections, the first municipal elections to be held since it became effective the Brexit”. This circumstance, she has specified, "makes them have to carry out a procedure and meet different requirements than those they had to follow when they were residents of a European Union country."
The same day that the informative talk is held, the period opens for community residents or residents of countries that have agreements with Spain to express their willingness to exercise their right to vote. The procedure can be carried out by filling out a form at the Town Hall or on the Internet at the Electoral Census Office (https://sede.ine.gob.es).
Those interested in attending the talk must confirm their presence by sending an email to info@votoresidentesalicante.com or by phone at 626 110 222.
