The preliminary works begin next week before the start of the burying of Beniardá Avenue

Benidorm creates a new temporary roundabout at the intersection of Ricardo Bayona with Nicaragua to improve traffic and safety in the area

26 August 2022
Rotonda.

The Benidorm City Council will start an action next week at the confluence of Ricardo Bayona and Nicaragua streets in order to improve traffic and pedestrian mobility in that area. The intervention will consist of the creation of a roundabout at that point, as explained by the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, "which will give more fluidity and ease to road traffic and safety for pedestrians, especially children who come to nearby schools, such as Miguel Hernández”.

The works will begin at the beginning of next week with the milling of the intersection and painting of the roundabout which, although initially, it will be provisional, “in the near future will be definitive”. The intervention is expected to be completed by the end of next week.

González de Zárate explained that "the action is very important, as was the roundabout we did on Venezuela Avenue, which contributed very significantly to improving mobility at that point". In this case, in addition to making traffic fluid, "we protect students and people who live and walk along Nicaragua Street."

The work will be carried out with municipal resources and will be done just before the start of the preliminary work on Beniardá Avenue “so that the entrance to Benidorm is facilitated for all those who come for work or tourism and who can get used to the new itinerary.

Basically, the intervention will consist of removing one of the existing islands, the one in front of the Miguel Hernández school, and making the roundabout by placing a fence. The area will also be painted yellow to emphasize the provisional nature of the action "until it is done definitively," the councillor specified.

Similarly, another of the reasons for the creation of this new roundabout is the imminent start-up of the new free public car park on Cuba Avenue, with more than 400 spaces, which will cause a greater influx of vehicles in the area. "Given the foreseeable increase in traffic both for the new car park and for the works on Beniardá avenue, we have decided to undertake this action in order to avoid, as far as possible, the traffic problems that could arise," González de Zárate added.
