Víctor Pellicer wins the first prize in the Music Contest, focused on the Saxophone modality and dedicated to the late maestro Pedro Iturralde
Benidorm closes the XXXII International Music Course, which has brought together more than a hundred students
Benidorm said goodbye last night to the XXXII International Course of Music; that for a week has brought together more than a hundred students from various countries and cities in Spain. The Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, presided over the closing ceremony that was held in the Assembly Hall of the City Council, which was attended by members of the Corporation; the course director, José Fuster; the staff of teachers for this edition; students; and music fans.
Prior to the closing recital, the prizes of the Music Contest were awarded, which in this edition has been developed in the saxophone mode and which has been dedicated to the master saxophonist and composer Pedro Iturralde, who died last November. After the different auditions, among the three finalists, the jury decided to award the first prize to Víctor Pellicer, who next year will offer the opening concert of the XXXIII International Music Course.
Pellicer himself, accompanied on piano by Stefanos Spanopoulos, opened the closing recital last night, which was completed with the interpretations of professors Michal Dmochowski –violoncello-, Graham Jackson –piano-, Savva Fatkulin –violin- and Liza Yaroshinskaia –piano- .
During the closing ceremony, the Councilor for Culture highlighted the "determination" of the Course director to resume it after the pandemic prevented its celebration in 2020; At the same time, he stressed the “responsibility” of public institutions “to maintain the full development of culture” especially at times like the present one.
The mayor was "satisfied" by "the magnificent edition offered", which "for a week has turned Benidorm into the capital of music", and transferred teachers and students that "it has been a pleasure to accompany them and enjoy good music". Likewise, he thanked the sponsors for their involvement with this International Music Course, that edition after edition also arouses the interest of the public that “has filled all the concerts”.
