Benidorm City Council has begun an intervention at Plaza de Sus Majestades Los Reyes de España, the Town Hall square, to stop the recurring water leaks in the underground car park of L’Aigüera through the existing grates in the upper part.
The works consist of replacing 77 metres of the drainage channel with a grey microgram granite gutter on a mass concrete base. The gutter is a strip similar to a channel that is usually found on some roads, whose function is to conduct rainwater for evacuation.
In this case, in addition to the installation of the gutter, waterproofing will also be carried out under it and one metre on each side by supplying and placing bituminous sheeting with a fold in the structural joint. The gutter will be shaped like a half-round for the surface collection of water.
The works, as explained by the Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, are included in the annual investment plan for the maintenance and conservation of the car park and have a budget of around 62,000 euros. Muñoz has indicated that the work will be finished in March.
The councillor has emphasised that this action fulfils three objectives. “On the one hand we put an end to the leaks in the lower part where the car park is, but it will also make cleaning the area much easier, which was very complicated with the grate, and at the same time we gain in accessibility” he has affirmed. The existence of the current drain causes damage to the pavement due to the expansion of the metal in times of high temperatures. “In this way, we will no longer have this problem” Muñoz has added.
