Benidorm carries out pruning work to keep the city's trees in perfect conditions

Benidorm ejecuta labores de poda para mantener el arbolado de la ciudad en perfectas condiciones

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Parks and Gardens, is undertaking pruning and conditioning work on the trees in the municipality so that most of the species are in the best condition.

As the area councillor, José Ramón González de Zárate recalled, Benidorm has around 26,000 tree specimens in the city, which makes it “not only one of the cities that has the greenest land in proportion but also “one of the ones with the most trees in the municipality.”

A forest mass “that must be taken care of because it also contributes to improving and maintaining the good image of Benidorm” stated the mayor, who has once again reaffirmed “this government's commitment to sustainability and respect and care for the environment.”

To this end, specific pruning and conditioning of the specimens is carried out throughout the year, although it is at this time of year when this work is intensified to reach the high season with the trees in the best conditions and to be able to interrupt these actions. during holiday periods.

Thus, the city has about 3,800 mulberry trees that must be pruned to improve the fixity of the tree and to prevent it when producing fruit, it can fall onto the sidewalks and cause dirt and possible falls. The action on this species began after the Festes Majors Patronals and has already concluded.

Likewise, the pruning of the approximately 3,500 palm trees in the municipal area is underway. “More than 60% of them are already pruned and we will finish before March,” said González de Zárate.

In the case of banana trees, a species of which there are around 8,000 specimens in Benidorm, pruning is carried out every three or four years. In this case, the work has also begun and it is planned to prune around 3,000 specimens, “which is what we should do this year,” explained the councillor.

González de Zárate, finally, pointed out that the local government “makes all the efforts that are necessary to have a sustainable and greenest city, unlike other governments that what they did was remove trees and put cement in their place".
