Benidorm awards the project and construction of two 11-a-side football fields of artificial turf in Foietes
The Local Government Board has today awarded the contract to build two new artificial grass 11-a-side soccer fields (4 for 8-a-side soccer) in the Ciudad Deportiva 'Guillermo Amor', thus increasing the facilities at Foietes site. The mayor, Toni Pérez, has indicated that "the contract includes the drafting of the project for both fields, based on the draft prepared by the municipal technicians, and their construction, reaching an investment of 1,499,596.56 euros".
Toni Pérez explained that these two new pitches "will have UEFA dimensions, which will make it possible for them to host sports competitions." The approved contract includes As Toni Pérez has pointed out, "more and more Benidormans are playing soccer and competing in one of the local clubs, which makes it necessary to increase the equipment for this sport."
The mayor stressed that "with this project, we promote a new investment to substantially improve what is our dean sports complex", in which a new multi-sports track has recently been put into service and where the expansion and adaptation of the 'Raúl Mesa' pavilion.
The new 11-a-side football fields, which in turn are also four 8-a-side soccer fields, will be located in the space now occupied by the athletics track, which currently houses a central grass field. According to the draft, the new fields "are located as far north as possible to leave as much paved space as possible to the south." In addition, a central corridor is reserved between the two in anticipation of the future installation of stands.
On the other hand, when planning the new sports facilities in Foietes, the use that is given to the facilities during the event season has been taken into account, contemplating solutions that improve access to and exit from the venue, that facilitate access of large-tonnage vehicles without affecting the sports facility and that allow for a higher capacity than the current one. In short, "all the planning has been done in such a way that both activities can be made compatible, sports and recreation, without the facilities suffering damage or being affected", the mayor remarked.
Likewise, it is planned to renew the irrigation installation and the plumbing network.
Toni Pérez stressed that "the creation of these two 11-a-side football fields in Foietes will not leave athletes and athletics fans unattended, since, as we already announced in February, construction work on a new track in the West area; a top-level staff, fully approved and that will make Benidorm once again a reference for the practice of this modality”. This new athletics track will be located on the land of PP 2/1, the Poniente area now under development, and will not involve a municipal outlay, since its cost will be borne by different urban agreements.
