The association reads a manifesto at Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España to raise awareness about this disease

Aspanion encourages continued support for long-term follow-up programs for childhood cancer

26 September 2022
Lectura del Manifiesto de Aspanion.

The Association of Parents of Children and Adolescents with Cancer of the Valencian Community (Aspanion) has today read a manifesto at Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España in Benidorm to encourage society "to continue supporting this new impulse to the follow-up program long-term survival of childhood cancer survivors.

The reading of the manifesto by Jorge Company, a member of the association, was attended by all the members of the local corporation. At the event, it was highlighted that 80% of minors outgrow the disease "but two out of three will have sequelae that will affect their quality of life" so "cancer in childhood and adolescence is a mark that is difficult to erase and that marks a before and after”.

The association has shown its "pride" in the fact that the proposal for the monitoring program has been the most voted in the participatory budgets of the Generalitat because it supposes that "society has understood that it is not enough to cure them, but that it is necessary to monitor their health for the rest of their lives, even in adulthood, and know the risk of relapses and second tumours”.

Aspanion is committed to "ensuring their quality of life" after medical discharge because treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or transplants "can develop side effects years after treatment."

The manifesto has ended by remembering "that 20% of children and adolescents who did not overcome the disease and who forever occupy a place in our hearts".
