‘El Timó’, ‘La Gresca’ and ‘Quatre Gats’, winners of the contest #LaPeñaRecicla de Ecovidrio
11,160 containers and 2,900 kg of glass recycled by the clubs of Benidorm during the FMP2019
This morning, the Councilors of Fiestas and Environment, Jesús Carrobles and Mónica Goméz, together with Lola Sivera, representative of the Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge' and Manuel Sala, management technician of Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization in charge of the management of the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, they have presented to the representatives of 'El Timó', 'La Gresca' and 'Quatre Gats', the awards of the # LaPeñaRecicla campaign, which took place during the last Festes Majors Patronals.
Between November 11 and 13, a giant scale was installed at Plaza de la Constitución with the aim that all the peñas will deposit there the glass containers used during the holidays. Thanks to this initiative, it has been possible to recycle “more than 11,160 containers, this means a total of more than 2,930 kg of glass,” said Mónica Gómez. The head of Environment has thanked Ecovidrio for his "commitment to recycling and sustainability" and to the rocks for collaboration "and good work for our environment."
For his part, Jesús Carrobles has pointed out that those in Benidorm are “parties committed to sustainability and the environment” as evidenced by the use of recyclable cups, launched last year, the Ecovidrio campaign, or the actions carried out during the Penyes Camping. The Councilor of Fiestas has also congratulated the winning peñistas, and has emphasized his commitment as he states that one of them, ‘Quatre Gats’ “has repeated prize, they are already veterans in recycling”.
The representative of Ecovidrio recalled that recycling is “a seemingly very simple gesture” with which it is possible to “sensitize and educate from the point of view of sustainability”. Manuel Sala has clarified that “from a glass container another one is made again, with the same properties” which is “a very clear example of circular economy”.
Sala has pointed out that in # LaPeñaRecicla a total of 86 clubs have participated. In the global calculation, the city of Benidorm recycled 3,811 tons of glass in 2018. Waiting to close the 2019 data, it is positioned with “more than 56 kilos of glass containers per inhabitant” recycled annually, a ratio “well above the Valencian Community and Spain”.
Finally, Lola Sivera has congratulated the winning clubs and encouraged everyone to “break the record” this year 2020.
