The work 'Serra Gelada Christian march' has been chosen by the jury as the winner of the XXI Festival Music Composition Contest, a decision that was announced last night and that carries a prize of 2,000 euros. This Christian march is the work of the composer Azael Tormo Muñoz, who already won in the previous edition with the Moorish march 'Andrés, músic y tagarino'.
The piece was performed at the end of the concert that took place last night in the Óscar Esplá auditorium, once the author of the piece was revealed. The decision was adopted by a technical jury made up of local directors and composers Josep Cano and Antonio Espinosa, composer and teacher Pedro Salinas and local musician Javier Cidrón on behalf of the Association of Moors and Christians, and chaired by the Councilor for Culture Jaime Jesus Perez.
Yesterday's concert was followed by a large number of attendees in the auditorium, including the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the mayor of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, members of the corporation, the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Aila Merenciano and Chloe D'Hebboudt, the president of the Commission, José Vicente Fuster, and representatives of various festive entities.
The concert was offered by the Benidorm Musical Union, under the direction of Rafael Gómez Parra, who performed the marches 'Jamalajam' by J. Ferrándiz, 'Pepet' by P. Salinas, 'Xabat' by S. Gómez, 'Creu Daurà ' by F. Valor, 'Juanvi Rey nazarí' by F. J. Rovira, 'El bon fester' by J. D. Cano and 'Andrés, músic y tagarino'.
At the end of the act, the Musical Union played the winning march, which was later performed again under the baton of its composer.
Previously, the act began with the entry of the banners of each of the 'filaes' of the Moors and Christians festival in the city and the proclamation by Professor Francisco Amillo, who spoke of the relationship between the festival of Moors and Christians and the history of Benidorm, as well as the historical episodes and vicissitudes that the city has suffered over the centuries due to corsair incursions.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, closed the act with a speech in which he was sure that "the filaes will make Benidorm shine again with the Moors and Christians" and advanced that "you will have the City Council by your side to fill the streets of noise, colour, music and gunpowder”.
Pérez congratulated Azael Tormo, the winning composer, who won a prize of 2,000 euros, before the mayor announced that the final title of the winning piece will be 'Serra Gelada christian march'.
