Benidorm Town Hall Auditorium was the scene this afternoon of the third of the concerts included in the Cycle of Great Recitals organised by the Department of Culture for 2025. An annual cycle that brings together high-quality performers with recognised professional careers in the city.

This afternoon's concert, by pianist Fabio Afrune, was entitled 'Bells for Peace' and he performed a programme with music by Modest Mussorgsky, Pedro Salinas, Lusa Monllor and Krassimir Taskov. Pedro Salinas introduced the pianist and the recital programme to the attendees, among whom were the Councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, and members of the local corporation.

The concert began at 8 pm as usual in this cycle, with free admission until the room was full, which was almost full. In the first part of the concert ‘Bells for Peace’, Afrune performed Mussorgsky’s composition ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’. This work was composed in 1874 and its purpose was to put music to the author’s impressions after a visit to a posthumous exhibition of paintings and drawings by his friend, the artist and architect Viktor Hartmann.

The second part included a repertoire with the themes ‘In Memoriam Vicente Monerris’, by Pedro Salinas; ‘Almost Two Thousand Children’ by Lusa Monllor; ‘Piece for piano’ by Pedro Salinas; and, finally, ‘Winter Sacrifice’ and ‘Scherzo’, both by Krassimir Taskov.

The pianist, teacher and musician, Fabio Afrune was born in 1995 in Perugia, Italy. He has won numerous international competitions and prestigious awards such as the Roscini Prize, the Gerofi-Baschwitz Prize and the UNESCO Special Prize. His repertoire ranges from early music played on the harpsichord and clavichord to the great piano works of Schumann, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Skrjabin and Rachmaninov, among others. As Salinas has pointed out, the Italian musician “has a highly refined technique that has led him to be highly recognised and to give concerts throughout Europe”.
