Coinciding with the 70th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration Benidorm encourages Europe to persevere in unity, support Tourism and restore travelers' confidence

Toni Pérez proclaims that Benidorm is Europe and needs Europe

09 May 2020
Toni Pérez proclama que Benidorm es Europa y necesita a Europa

In an institutional event through telematic services broadcast by the technology platforms of Benidorm City Council, the Plenary Hall has once again hosted an institutional plenary session, on the occasion of the commemoration of Europe Day, in which all members of the Corporation have participated, as well as representatives of the Consular Corps in Alicante and province, civil and military authorities and representatives of associations and local entities.

In his speech, the mayor Toni Pérez has reaffirmed Benidorm's pro-European vocation, reaffirming "the commitment to the European Union and its democratic values", consciously, he stressed that Benidorm "has a great ally in Europe".

The current situation and the phase in which the city is now, stressed the mayor, "does not detract one iota from our European spirit" and the will to celebrate this day in the city, showing "the deepest respect for those who suffer from this pandemic and its consequences".

Toni Pérez stressed "the irreducible confidence" of Benidorm in the European project "because we are, are and participate in Europe", while pointing out that "we need Europe", pointing out that Benidorm is "a model of integration, tolerance and coexistence".

The mayor recalled the momentous moment we are living, noting that it is "a time that calls for generosity, solidarity and high-mindedness" and encouraging Europe "to continue united and advancing, defending the dignity of people and solidarity with those most in need" , as well as the "principles of freedom, peace, well-being and progress".

He insisted on the Europeanist vocation of Benidorm "that began to show itself strongly when we opened ourselves to tourism" in the 50s of the last century, where Benidorm, stressed Toni Pérez, "bet almost silently on openness and today openly proclaims his conviction again in the future, in Europe ”, demanding“ ambitious solutions to overcome the pandemic and the social and economic challenges it is causing ”.

In his words, the mayor of Benidorm highlighted the importance of tourism: “it is everyone's hope; some to come and others because they come, eager as we are for the return to normality ”.

Under the premise that "people and their safety come first", Toni Pérez encouraged Europe "to support tourism, recover air connections, develop common rules on safety and restore traveler confidence", highlighting that "Benidorm works to offer them a safe destination".

In this sense, Toni Pérez stressed that "Benidorm is in the active imagination of millions of Europeans" who through the municipal campaign of positioning the tourist destination in Social Networks #BenidormTeEspera, developed since March 26, are interested at the moment where they can return to the city to enjoy "the happiness that is Benidorm".

The mayor finished expressing his conviction that "Europe will emerge reinforced from this dificulty" and that "Benidorm will be in it, with confidence and will."

The interpretation of the European Anthem and the Royal March completed the plenary session with which Benidorm commemorated, for the thirty-fifth time, Europe Day.
