The initiative aims to publicize the work done by the Department, conduct surveys on beaches and posidonia and show children the importance of recycling

The ten students of the employment programme ‘T’Avalem Benidorm Sostenible’ specialising in ‘Environment and education’ will carry out various actions to provide information and environmental interpretation on the city’s beaches until next September. This programme is fully funded by a subsidy from the Valencian Employment and Training Service-LABORA of 528,256.80 euros, complemented by a municipal contribution of 50,000 euros.

The students will be distributed between the offices of the Department of the Environment, the beach libraries of Levante and Poniente, and the play centres on both beaches. They will be at the Department from 7.30 to 14.30 and on the beaches from 11 to 14 hours.

The beach libraries will be used as a point of information and environmental education and basically, three actions will be carried out there. On the one hand, using tablets, students will show citizens the section on the municipal website dedicated to the Department of Environment and Beaches and “the different actions carried out by the Department, which some are unaware of, and how much work is done to improve the environment in the city” said the Councillor for Employment, Mónica Gómez. On the other hand, surveys related to the city's beaches will be carried out to collect useful information from tourists and resident citizens. Finally, knowing that one of the users' main complaints continues to be Posidonia “a small test of ten questions will be given that will help them understand why it is so important for the conservation of our beaches, flora and fauna”.

As regards the play centres in Levante and Poniente, recycling workshops will be organised for the youngest children in which they will be explained “the importance of recycling the rubbish we generate and how to use each colour of waste container correctly”. In addition, toys, wallets and purses will be created using containers and bottles, which can be taken as gifts.

These activities will begin tomorrow, July 25, and will take place on the 31st of this month, August 1, 7, 8, 13 and 14, and September 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26.

‘T’Avalem’ is a mixed employment and training program, in which on the one hand, students receive theoretical and practical training and on the other, they carry out work of public interest, through an employment contract with the City Council, applying everything they have learned. For this reason, the Employment Councilor has considered that it is “a great opportunity to improve their employability or expand their knowledge in a new speciality and, in addition, to have direct contact with the labour world.”
