Julio Iglesias will host Kinetic Percussion Duo and Dolç Tab Jazz concerts on 23 and 30

Students of the municipal conservatory open the fifth edition of Great Recitals

03 October 2020
Primer concierto de Ciclo Grandes Recitales de Benidorm.

The fifth edition of the Great Recitals Series started tonight in the City Hall Assembly Hall with a concert by the students of ‘José Pérez Barceló’ Municipal Professional Music Conservatory who have performed accompanied on piano by Jesús M. Gómez.

Antonio Saval on horn opened the recital with a performance of 'Morceau de concert', by Camille Saint-Saëns. Subsequently, the Clarinet Quartet of the Conservatory, made up of Ángela Fernández, Laura Sellés, María Esquerdo and Sergi Pérez, performed ‘Sevilla’ by Isaac Albéniz and ‘Bucolique’ by Alexandre Rydin.

In the second part, the percussionist Miguel Martínez has performed ‘Arhus Etude n.9’, by Ben Lylloff; 'Dream ot the Cherry Blossoms', by Keiko Abe; 'Scherzetto', by Graham Whettam, and 'Blues for Gilbert', by Mark Glentworth. Finally, the percussion student, Ángel Mas, did the same with 'Two for six', by John Beck; Prelude, Courante and Gigue from the ‘1 Suite’, by Johann Sebastian Bach; the 2nd Movement of the "Sonata for Timpani", by John Beck; and ‘Midnignt pieces 1st. mov. First Toy 'by Igor Lesnik.

During the event, the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, gave the student interpreters of the conservatory two gift vouchers and thanked the institution, teachers, students and family members for supporting the concert series and Culture in the city.

This year's Great Recitals cycle is a different call due to the requirements for containing the pandemic caused by Covid-19. The Department of Culture has reduced the number of recitals to three, although the second and third, scheduled for Friday October 23 and 30, will be moved to the Julio Iglesias auditorium at Parque de l’Aigüera. With the change of scenery, in the open air, the capacity is increased and the scrupulous health protocol is guaranteed even more.

On Friday 23, at the Julio Iglesias, Kinetic Percussion Duo will perform, offering a show of their own compositions and arrangements of classical pieces. On the 30th, on the same stage, it will be the turn of Dolç Tab Jazz Project, a trio from the Marina Alta who make traditional Valencian songs sound like jazz with the ‘xirimita’ as the main character.
