The action will continue during this week and will involve new lighter containers with better maintenance

Street Cleaning undertakes the replacement of the underground containers at Plaça de la Senyoría

Limpieza Viaria acomete la sustitución de los contenedores soterrados de la Plaça de la Senyoría

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Street Cleaning, has started today, Tuesday, the work of adapting the underground containers located at Plaça de la Senyoría, work that will continue during this week with the aim that the new ones are operational at the beginning of next week.

The Councilor for Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro, explained that the containers in the square were “not providing service because they were in poor condition, deteriorated and very old.” The action, Navarro specified, “is part of the work planned in the 2024 services project.” It is the second action that will be carried out after improvements made to the underground containers on Pintor Lozano Street.

The containers on Plaça de la Senyoría will be removed to take advantage of the pits “so we save costs and install new, more modern and operational containers,” Navarro pointed out. Specifically, four double electro-hydraulic platforms will be installed, intended in principle for the rest fraction. However, according to Navarro "the containers are configurable and could also be used for other types of waste that the City Council consider appropriate at any time."

The total capacity amounts to 8,000 litres, so with the new installation, there is no loss of capacity compared to the previous configuration. “We also have the advantage that the new containers are made of a lighter material that reduces weight and maintenance problems,” concluded the councillor.

This action will cause some effects on road traffic, which are expected to be as few as possible due to the short duration of the work. Thus, Sant Llorenç Street will have an upward direction for the duration of the intervention and Condestable Zaragoza Street will have a two-way traffic direction for those with fords. Vehicles travelling there in the direction of Plaça de la Senyoría must detour onto Quatre Cantons Street in the direction of Sant Vicent, which maintains its downward direction towards Paseo de la Carretera.
