Street Cleaning begins an extraordinary campaign to remove chewing gum in the streets of Benidorm

The Street Cleaning Department of Benidorm City Council has started an extraordinary campaign to remove chewing gum from public roads that will extend to several areas of the city, according to the councillor for the department, Luis Navarro.

This campaign is carried out in collaboration with the environmental section of the FCC concessionaire.

Navarro has highlighted the difficulty of removing these remains of dirt "because they remain stuck to the ground and special machinery must be used to remove them."

The campaign is carried out first along Mediterranean Avenue, specifically in the pedestrian sections, which are the ones that accumulate the greatest traffic of people and where the greatest amount of chewing gum is found. Subsequently, the campaign will move to Paseo de Poniente and then take place on the avenues of Madrid and Alcoy.

This work is carried out “taking advantage of the fact that we are in the low tourist season so that the inconvenience is less as there are fewer people on public roads and to show a good image of cleanliness in the city.”

The extraordinary cleaning tasks on these dates will not be limited only to the removal of gum from the sidewalks, but maintenance work will be carried out on the collection containers and on the elements that may be more damaged such as the pedals, the covers or paint. “What we want is to undertake these tasks now to have them finished before the Fallas, which is when the number of tourists in the city begins to increase significantly,” said Navarro.

For these works, an electric pressure washer vehicle and special products are being used to remove gum from public roads. Likewise, hot water is used by the operator who is in charge of removing and collecting their remains.
