Holy Thursday is also celebrated in La Cala neighborhood with the procession of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane

Silence reigns in Foietes-Madrid neighbourhood, to accompany the Last Supper, the Virgin of Sorrows, and the Christ of Forgiveness

18 April 2025
jueves santo

The Holy Week celebrations in Benidorm concentrated their main events on Holy Thursday last night in the neighbourhoods that mark the northern and western ends of the city: Foietes-Colonia Madrid and La Cala. At the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Almudena, the floats of the Sacramental Brotherhood of the Last Supper and the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Forgiveness and Good Death, along with the image of Our Lady of Sorrows, jointly starred in the Procession of Silence. After leaving the church at 9:00 p.m., it continued for just over two hours through the main streets of this neighbourhood under the watchful eyes of hundreds of residents.

The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, along with the Councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros; a large group of councilors from the Municipal Corporation; and regional representatives José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll participated in this ceremony, accompanied by Susana Martínez, the senior sister of the Cristo del Perdón y la Buena Muerte (Christ of Forgiveness and Good Death) and Magdalena Torrente, the president of the Sacramental Brotherhood of the Last Supper; representatives of the Almudena parish, with the parish priest Pedro Crespo; and brothers and sisters from other Holy Week brotherhoods in the city, led by María Dolores Cano, the president of the Brotherhood Board.

Hundreds of residents followed the procession from the public thoroughfare or their balconies. One of the most moving moments of the religious ceremony took place in front of the Civil Guard barracks, where the traditional trumpet solo sounded with the legionary knights and Civil Guards standing at attention; as well as during the entrance and exit of the floats from the church, especially that of Cristo del Perdón and La Buena Muerte (Christ of Forgiveness and Good Death) carried on the shoulders of their costaleros.

The Brotherhood of San Juan Bautista, in La Cala, also celebrated Holy Thursday with the procession of the Prayer of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, which toured the neighbourhood accompanied by faithful, residents, and municipal representatives, led by the elder brother, Rafael González.

Good Friday, General Procession
Today, Good Friday, the brotherhoods and brotherhoods of Benidorm will participate in the General Procession and the Holy Burial, which will depart at 8:30 p.m. from the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and will travel through the streets of the city centre.
