The Council publicly congratulates Nati Algado, who next week will become the first woman to head the Mayor's Office in the Finestrat Town Hall

The Regional Equality Council presents its campaign to promote non-sexist toys for Christmas

El Consejo Comarcal de Igualdad presenta su campaña para promover juguetes no sexistas en Navidad

The councilwomen, technicians, and equality promoters from the various municipalities that make up the Marina Baixa Regional Council for Equality met this Thursday at the Casal de les Dones-Espai Igualtat in La Nucía, where the December meeting took place. Ángela Zaragozí, the Councillor for Equality from Benidorm City Council, participated and announced the launch of the Christmas campaign, "Playing Freely, Growing Equally," which aims to raise awareness about choosing non-sexist toys this Christmas. A special mention was also made of Councillor Nati Algado, who will become the first female mayor of Finestrat on December 12th.

This meeting was the last of the Regional Equality Council in 2025 and was attended by representatives from the municipalities of l’Alfàs del Pi, Benidorm, La Vila Joiosa, Polop, La Nucía, Callosa d’en Sarrià, and the Marina Baixa Association of Municipalities.

Regarding the campaign launched for the holidays, the slogan ‘Playing Free, Growing Equal’ summarises the objective of this initiative, which began at the regional level in 2023 and aims to “highlight sexism in toy advertising and design, by assigning caregiving and beauty roles to girls and action or technology roles to boys.” Councilwoman Ángela Zaragozí emphasised that “one of the objectives of the Equality Council is to work to dismantle myths and make visible those patterns that perpetuate inequalities and limit children's play options,” using an alternative narrative “so that boys and girls can identify with others outside of traditional stereotypes and giving visibility to diversity within childhood itself.”

From today until the end of the Christmas holidays, this campaign will be visible in all the municipalities of the Marina Baixa region through posters, bus shelters, screens, and social media of the town halls that make up the Regional Equality Council.

The agenda also includes a special mention of Finestrat councilwoman Nati Algado, who will become the mayor of Finestrat next Friday, December 12, following the appointment this week of the current mayor, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, as president of the Valencian Government.

The Marina Baixa Regional Council for Equality congratulated Nati Algado for becoming the first woman to head the Mayor's office in the municipality of Finestrat.
