Cristina Escoda announces that tomorrow, October 17, the PSPV-PSOE headquarters in Benidorm will host the 'Trobada Estellés, the poet of the town'

PSOE denounces the lack of municipal programming to commemorate the Estellés year and criticises the PP for not to comply with the plenary agreement

17 October 2024
Cristina Escoda del grupo Socialista.

The socialist municipal group has denounced the lack of programming that the PP Government team is carrying out to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Valencian poet Vicent Andrés Estellés. The socialist spokesperson, Cristina Escoda, has recalled that it has been almost eight months since the plenary session approved the organisation of activities to disseminate the poet's connection with Benidorm, and has regretted that the mayor has once again failed to comply with a plenary agreement.

Escoda has stressed that it was the PSOE who submitted this proposal to the Board of Spokespersons with the aim of the City Council organising activities such as exhibitions, conferences or the publication of materials, aimed at society in general and, in particular, at the educational community. Activities, the spokesperson continued, have ended up being carried out by entities and associations "in the face of the immobility and paralysis of the government of Toni Pérez who has done nothing about it."

In this regard, the councillor has detailed that Escola Valenciana, within the framework of the Trobada d’Escoles en Valencià, organised a conference by Pasqual Almiñana entitled “Estellés’ view of Benidorm”; the International Poetry Festival a recital of poems by the Valencian author; and there is an exhibition on the relationship between Estellés and the city in secondary schools which is also sponsored by the Town Councils of Altea and l’Alfás del Pi and not by Benidorm.

However, Escoda has asked Mayor Toni Pérez that, between trips around the province taking photos, he dedicates a little time to managing his city and organising some activities to highlight Vicent Andrés Estellés, the most important poet in the Valencian language since Ausiàs March.

Estellés Meeting
The socialist leader has announced that the PSPV-PSOE in Benidorm has organised the ‘Trobada Estellés, el poeta del poble’ (Estellés Meeting, the poet of the town) for tomorrow, Thursday, 17 October, at its headquarters on Calle Gardenias. Escoda has emphasised that the event will consist of a talk on the history of the main innovator of contemporary Valencian poetry and his enormous connection with the town and a collective reading of his poems.
