The plenary of Benidorm has approved today by a large majority the project with which the city will attend a new call of Red.es launched by the Government of Spain and which seeks to consolidate the transformation of the municipality into a Smart Tourist Destination. The project 'Benidorm, Smart and Sustainable Tourism Destination' is valued at just over 4 million euros and "includes a package of actions absolutely necessary for Benidorm to continue to consolidate as a leader in the digital transformation of tourist destinations", according to the spokesman of the local government, José Ramón González de Zárate.

De Zárate indicated that it is a project "very worked, very ambitious and coordinated by the municipal technical services", and added that -based on the proposal of the mayor- if selected "the City Council would provide 40% of the necessary investment in two years as established in this call for aid of the program of the National Plan of Smart Territories of the Digital Agenda for Spain Smart Tourist Destinations ". 60% of the remaining investment would be covered by the Public Business Entity Red.es.

The spokesman stressed that it is "a historic opportunity, the call and the work that Benidorm has developed in recent months in the field of tourism." Like the rest of the corporation, De Zárate thanked the work done to "the municipal technical services, especially in the areas of New Technologies and Engineering, the department of Tourism, Beaches, Mobility, Statistics, Employment and Local Development, the Office of European Funds and Mobility; as well as Visit Benidorm Foundation and the concessionaires and water management companies, the beaches or Smart Tourism ".
