This formula limits the presence of containers on public roads to the night time zone, preventing garbage from being deposited at any time of the day

The pilot system of removable containers reaches Pintor Lozano square and La Parra street

10 August 2021
El sistema piloto de contenedores de ‘quita y pon’ llega a la Plaza del Pintor Lozano y a la calle La Parra

The Department of Street Cleaning has decided to take the pilot project for removable containers to two new areas of the Old Town and the Calvari neighborhood, as confirmed today by the mayor of the department, José Ramón González de Zárate. “After the results that we are having in the points where this formula already works, we have considered it appropriate to extend it to other central areas where it has been detected that the schedules for taking out the garbage are not being met and that, consequently, image and odor problems are being generated ”, he pointed out.
De Zárate explained that this pilot system "limits the presence of containers on public roads to a specific time, mainly at night, thus preventing garbage from being deposited outside the hours established by municipal ordinance." In this way, the containers are placed every day around 8:00 p.m. and removed before 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
The mayor has indicated that “we began to use this system of 'removable' containers at La Constitución square and later it was also implemented in l'Hort de Colón and at the junction of Mercado and Antonio Ramos Carratalá streets. The experience, results and reception by citizens and businesses is being positive and that is why we are progressively taking this pilot to other areas, precisely those in which the new cleaning and waste collection contract proposes to implement definitively this 'removable' container system ”.
In this way, “this pilot is helping us, on the one hand, to check the suitability of this system; and on the other, so that citizens and the commercial and hospitality sector can become more familiar with it ”, he added.
As detailed by the mayor, at Pintor Lozano square the system was launched yesterday Monday, while in La Parra street it will begin to operate this next Thursday, August 12.
Likewise, De Zárate recalled that “in parallel to the implementation of the 'removable' containers formula, the street washing device has been reinforced, both in staf and machinery, from three to five flushing machines and from two to three vats ”. The flushing tasks are carried out throughout the day.
