The City Council completes the works of adaptation of these facilities and initiates the improvement of Raúl Mesa Sports Hall

The petanque courts of Foietes are now 100% accessible

07 December 2017
Las pistas de petanca de Foietes ya son 100% accesibles

The petanque courts of Foietes are already fully accessible after the adaptation works being carried out by the City Council in these facilities at the request of Doble Amor and the Association of Disabled Persons of Benidorm (ASMIBE). Some works that have already entered the final stretch and will conclude in the coming days coinciding with the XII Petanque Doble Amor Tournament, which is celebrated on December 14.

The Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, explained that "all the accesses, walks and surroundings of the slopes" that until now were dirt -which made the passage of wheelchairs difficult have been concreted, all the perimeter eliminating architectural barriers, and lighting has been improved. At this moment, work is being done on the placement of new planks on the perimeter of the tracks, which later will be filled with new gravel. Part of these planks will be removable so that in addition to the enclosure also some of the tracks are "100% accessible".

Cabrillo visited the petanque courts this morning with the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the President of the Petanque Club, Vicente Picó, to see how these works are progressing. Subsequently, mayor and councilman have moved to the pavilion Raul Mesa, where they have already begun the improvement works and adaptation of a dressing room area and the roof.

Specifically, they are acting in the dressing rooms on the right side of the pavilion to make two more spacious and adapt a third for the referees. For this, it is proceeding to the internal demolition of these spaces.

The head of Sports has indicated that these works, valued at about 59,000 euros also include the arrangement of the roof that shows leaks that on rainy days hinder the practice of sports. Thus, "the entire perimeter will be sealed where the water overflows so that it does not penetrate the wall and does not reach the runway".

In addition, the problem of accessibility at the entrance to the pavilion will be solved, while a month ago the "hot water storage tank" was replaced, since the previous one had broken down due to its age.
