The works of the third phase advance and the comprehensive renovation of El Calvari neighborhood is completed

The pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño will be ready for Easter and will expand and improve the accessibility of Venus Street

22 March 2019
La peatonalización de Tomás Ortuño estará lista para Semana Santa y se amplia y mejora la accesibilidad de la calle Venus

The third phase of the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño Street will end days before Easter as announced this morning by the Councilor for Works and Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, during the visit he has made to supervise the progress of the latest works, along with the mayor, Toni Pérez, technicians from the area of municipal engineering and in charge of the contractor.

The works of the last phase of this downtown road are going at a good pace and will be completed days before the next Easter holidays if there are no unforeseen events that alter the planned work plan. The works will also be extended to Venus Street, where the renovation of the drinking water network, expansion of one of the sidewalks, asphalting and improvement of the accessibility of the road have been planned.

The works of this part of Tomás Ortuño, the stretch that goes from the confluence of the streets Limones-Carrasco to the junction of Venus and Mars, culminate the integral renovation of the heart of the urban area of Benidorm, El Calvari, the neighborhood that concentrates some from the oldest streets of Benidorm and most of its traditional trade. The works have been carried out step by step and in phases to reduce as much as possible the inconvenience generated by any work on public roads.

This third phase of pedestrianization has included works that have been developed both on the surface and in the subsoil. In addition to remodeling the sidewalks, road and urban scene, the entire waste water network of Tomás Ortuño has been renewed with a new pipeline and a new collector. The area has also been equipped with a well for the collection of rainwater and the collection network carried out in the previous pedestrianization phase has been extended. As it will be done now on Venus Street, the execution of these works has also meant the renewal of the entire drinking water supply network.
