The car park will be located on a 12,400 square meter site and will be operational in the coming weeks
A new free public car park on Avenida de Cuba will add another 415 spaces in Poniente
Benidorm City Council will incorporate more than 400 new free public parking spaces in Poniente area with the opening in the coming weeks of a new car park next to the avenues of Cuba, Paraguay and Uruguay.
This car park, with a capacity for around 415 vehicles, joins those opened in recent weeks on Lérida street (200 spaces) and on Comunidad Valenciana avenue (100 spaces) or the one that is about to open on Jaén street ( 95), so that in a few weeks the city will have some 800 more free parking spaces.
In the same way that has been done on previous occasions, the City Council has reached an agreement with the owner of the plot. Thus, it will be the Consistory that cleans up and prepares the land to leave it in perfect condition for use as a public car park. A formula, explained the mayor Toni Pérez, "that is allowing us to significantly increase the number of free public places available in the city, both in Poniente and Levante or at the entrances to Benidorm to improve mobility in the urban area ”. Therefore, the first mayor has taken the opportunity to "thank the generosity and willingness of the owners."
Preliminary work will begin this coming Monday on this 12,417-square-meter plot and the car park is expected to be operational in about two weeks, once the area has been cleaned, the vegetation removed and the ground levelled.
The plot will have the corresponding access ford to it, but the parking of caravans and motorhomes will not be allowed. The City Council will also provide the land with public lighting to avoid shadowy or poorly lit areas and will install informative institutional signs on the avenues of Paraguay and Uruguay to indicate the itinerary of access to the Poniente beach through the avenue of Xixo. The entrance to this new car park will be located on Avenida de Cuba.
The start-up of this car park "will be a great relief" for visitors and residents of Poniente, as well as for the existing public car park on Avenida de Cuba, "which is usually saturated, especially at times of maximum influx in the city". The car park will be operational, according to the agreement, until September 23, 2024, although the agreement is extendable if the parties consider it so.
The new spaces created in recent weeks said the mayor, "will also serve to serve the vehicles of workers from other towns who used, among others, the park and ride on Beniardá Avenue, which in a few days will be exclusively for residents due to the works to bury the avenue”, work that will begin on September 12 and that will force the usual traffic entering and exiting this road to be diverted to Juan Pablo II avenue or European Community avenue.
These actions are part of, Pérez stressed, "the determined commitment that we undertook years ago in favour of sustainable mobility in the municipal area, which is already giving results not only with the creation of places but with more fluid traffic, fewer retentions and more priority for pedestrians”.
