Minute of silence in Benidorm in rejection of the sexist crime in Tarancón

Benidorm City Council has called a minute of silence this afternoon at the main door of the town hall, as a sign of rejection and condemnation of the sexist violence that has claimed the thirteenth fatality of 2022. With the mayor, Toni Pérez, in the lead, In this way, the Municipal Corporation has shown its strongest rejection of this social scourge.

On this occasion, the victim was a 43-year-old woman from Morocco who was allegedly murdered by her 38-year-old spouse of the same nationality, in the Cuenca town of Tarancón, on May 2. The victim had two minor sons and a daughter.

The events took place at 8:00 in the morning at her family home. After the crime, her husband left the children with the body and turned himself into the Civil Guard. With this, there are already 1,139 women murdered by sexist violence in Spain since 2003 according to the statistics are counted

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has staff specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
