Minute of silence in Benidorm in memory of the last two victims of sexist violence

22 October 2019
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm en memoria de las dos últimas víctimas de la violencia machista

Benidorm has lived this midday a rally of rejection of sexist violence. The Department of Equality has observed a minute of silence at the gates of the City Council in which the mayor, Toni Pérez; the councilor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, councilors of the different political groups, public workers and neighbors.

With this protest in silence, Benidorm has expressed its deepest rejection of sexist violence that has ended the lives of two women these days. The first one, in the Granada town of La Zubía on Sunday; the second, this dawn, in Dénia. In the first case, the alleged murderer was the husband who shot the woman several times with a gun and, after the crime, committed suicide. In the case of the capital of the Marina Alta, it has been allegedly the ex-partner who has slaughtered the victim in front of his daughter. The criminal has already been brought to justice.

With these cases, there are 48 women victims of sexist violence in Spain so far this year, a figure that could be increased if two cases are confirmed that are still under investigation. The number of orphaned minors amounts to 36.

The Department of Equality recalls that 016 is the number of attention to victims of sexist violence. Serves in 52 languages. It does not leave a trace on the phone bill, but the call log must be deleted.
