The mayor proposes to ask the Provincial Council to transfer the section of the "tourist road" that runs through Benidorm

The mayor, Toni Pérez, will raise a motion to the next plenary to ask the Provincial Council of Alicante to transfer to the City Council the section of the CV-753 road, which links with l'Albir popularly known as 'tourist', passing through Benidorm Specifically, it is a section of 1.6 kilometers, which begins at Doctor Severo Ochoa Avenue and extends to the municipality of l'Alfàs del Pi, at the height of "Vicente Pérez Devesa" trinquet. The proposal, which was ruled yesterday in the Internal Regime Information Commission, is based on technical reports from the Engineering area that indicate that incorporating these 1.6 kilometers into the municipal urban network has “advantages” in urban, environmental and mobility terms.

Pérez explained that “in practice this section of the CV-753 already functions as an urban road because of traffic, its location, as well as the existence of fully consolidated tertiary areas, a campsite, a school, a farm of events and orchards. ” In addition, "for years the City Council assumes the costs of supply of public lighting, as well as the maintenance of most auxiliary services of the road." Hence, the technicians insist on “the suitability and relevance of assuming ownership and management of these 1.6 kilometers in order to also provide the necessary infrastructure and services to this route”.

In this sense, the mayor has clarified "the consolidated tertiary areas located in this section have services and infrastructure that in general add an approximate age of 50 years." To this is added that “the drinking water network has many shortcomings; there is no sewer connected to municipal sanitation, so septic tanks still persist; there is no supply of natural gas nor access to broadband telecommunications ”.

"All these shortages and lack of supplies would be remedied if the ownership and management of this section of the‘ tourist road  ’will become the City Council," he said. Something that has already happened before, for example, in the current avenues Comunidad Valenciana and Severo Ochoa, ceded at the time by the Ministry of Development and the Provincial Council of Alicante, respectively.

But in addition, as the technicians point out, if this section will become a municipal urban road there would be "other improvements" very important. Specifically, “sustainable mobility could be enhanced by increasing the frequency, number of lines and stops of urban transport; the use of the bicycle could be encouraged; traffic would calm down and current speeds would be reduced; services would be improved; the accident rate would be reduced; and also emissions and noise. " Likewise, by becoming an urban road, landscaping areas can be generated, thus improving the image of this access to Benidorm.

Regarding the cost of maintenance of these 1.6 kilometers, the technicians affirms that they are acceptable by the municipal coffers. Thus, it has been estimated in 14,161.38 euros "the annual maintenance cost of 1.8 kilometers" which would include cleaning of gutters, repair of vertical signage, reinforcement of horizontal, bump, arrangement of pavement. On the other hand, the investment that the City Council must make “every 12 years” for the paving, milling of the sign and replacement of signaling is calculated at 551,034.20 euros.

The mayor has indicated that “we expect that, unlike the Ministry that continues to refuse to transfer the urban section of the CV-70, the Provincial Council of Alicante does respond to our request, since it will result in the improvement of the urban scene of this area and, more importantly, in the mobility and security of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists ”.
