Toni Pérez assures that Benidorm will continue working so that the phase change occurs with all sanitary guarantees in the public and private spheres

The mayor asks the Ministry for information after the decision not to promote the passage to Phase 2

20 May 2020
El alcalde reclama a Conselleria información tras la decisión de no propiciar el pase a la Fase 2

The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, today lamented "the lack of transparency" and demanded "information" to the Health Department after the decision announced yesterday by Ana Barceló not to request the pass to Phase 2 for any municipality, territory, province or health area in the Comunidad Valenciana. Toni Pérez has indicated that "we want to think that there are data and indicators that support this decision", "the Generalitat Valenciana and the Ministry of Health" have the information, not the municipalities.

"In the case of Benidorm," he said, "we do not have that information because the Consell does not share it, but there is no doubt that we would like to know what the health situation of our city is, as it is an issue that affects our neighbors, and that would undoubtedly contribute to better manage and take action in case there is something to correct. "

In the absence of information and health indicators related to Benidorm, which has been in Phase 1 since last May 11, the mayor has assured that in the city "we will continue to observe and promote compliance with regulations" and "working , as we have done from minute one and every day, to prepare for the next phase with all the security guarantees, both in the public and private spheres ”.

After stressing that "the decision of the phase change does not correspond to us", the mayor has insisted on promoting the optimal scenario "so that if the opportunity to move the phase opens we can move with all guarantees".

In this sense, he recalled that the City Council has worked “side by side”, for example, with the hospitality and trade sectors to move to Phase 1 with all guarantees, proceeding to disinfect spaces that were going to be reopened to the public and the distribution of terraces so that they met the safety requirements and offered the highest possible profitability despite the limitation of audience.
