A man was arrested with almost a kilo and a half of cocaine after being intercepted during a routine police checkpoint

The National Police and Benidorm Local Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for alleged drug trafficking. The arrest occurred during a routine check carried out by a patrol from the Citizen Security Brigade, after observing abnormal driving while the driver was on a video call.
During an early morning patrol, officers observed a vehicle whose driver was using a mobile phone in video call mode while driving. The National Police patrol stopped the driver, but he ignored it and continued driving until a Benidorm Local Police patrol intercepted the vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped, the driver became visibly nervous, sweating, and had a shaky voice.
After identifying the driver, officers proceeded to conduct a superficial security pat-down and search the vehicle. Inside, they found a container containing a suspicious substance. After conducting a preliminary chemical test, the result was positive for cocaine, with a total weight of 1,470 grams.
Subsequently, another patrol from Benidorm Local Police was requested to assist, and they arrived with two specialised drug-detection dogs. The intervention ruled out the possibility of additional substances hidden inside the vehicle.
The detainee was also fined by Local Police officers for driving while handling a mobile phone and for not having a driver's license.
The arrested person is charged with drug trafficking. It was determined that he had come from Madrid and was residing in the town of Villajoyosa. He was taken to police headquarters and placed before the Benidorm Court of First Instance on duty.
