Local Government accuses PSOE of ‘trying to paralyse municipal management’ after challenging a tender with all reports in favour

The spokespeople for the Benidorm local government, Lourdes Caselles and Mónica Gómez, today accused the Socialist municipal group of trying to "sabotage, boycott, and paralyze municipal management" after learning that the opposition group has appealed to the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Appeals (TACRC) against the tender for the municipal building cleaning service contract, even though it has received all the necessary approvals from all the departments involved.

"It is disheartening to see that the PSOE's usual practice is to focus all its opposition efforts on obstructing everything this government tries to improve," said Gómez, who emphasised that "they have appealed an impeccable contract on which many municipal departments have worked for a long time." The councilwoman lamented that, instead of evaluating, analyzing, and consulting with the technical staff to address any doubts and contribute ideas to the tender specifications, “the Socialists decided not to wait, voted against it in the plenary session, and filed an appeal with the TACRC (Administrative Court of Contractual Appeals) with the sole objective of paralyzing municipal management and then claiming inaction on the part of the local government.”

Lourdes Caselles, for her part, expressed the local government's conviction that “the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) thinks that the worse things are for Benidorm, the better they will be. But they are wrong because with this approach they are only harming the citizens and our visitors.”

In this regard, Mónica Gómez highlighted the contradiction of the Socialist group, since “on the one hand, they demand that the tender specifications be submitted to the plenary session, and on the other hand, when they reach this body, with all the favourable reports, they then decide to vote against them and appeal.” “It saddens us that their sole intention is to obstruct the city's work,” added the deputy spokesperson, who insisted that “we will continue working for the citizens despite the PSOE's continued attempts to paralyse our efforts.”

At that point, Lourdes Caselles also emphasized the opposition group's “contradictory” arguments, since “they vote against the tender specifications, but then complain about the state of the municipal facilities and forget that children return to school in September, filing an appeal to try to delay the new contract” and, consequently, “the improvements to the service and the salary conditions of the staff,” which consists of 155 people.
