The Great Recitals concert pays tribute to female composers this Friday in Benidorm
Benidorm Town Hall's Assembly Hall will host another concert tomorrow, Friday, in the Great Recitals concerts organised annually by the Department of Culture to bring classical music to a wider audience. This concert, entitled "A Tribute to Women Composers," will feature a string quartet and is part of the "Culture for Equality" program, promoted by both departments as part of the events commemorating International Women's Day, celebrated worldwide on March 8th.
The Councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, announced that the concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. and admission is free until the hall reaches capacity. The program prepared for the occasion will offer a selection of works by two composers, Emilie Meyer and Fanny Mendelssohn. In the first piece, they will perform the four movements of ‘String Quartet in E-Flat Major (H. 277)’, with I. Adagio ma non troppo, II. Scherzo, Allegretto, III. Romanze, and IV. Allegro molto vivace.
The work chosen by Fanny Mendelssohn is ‘String Quartet in E Minor’, with I. Allegro maestoso, II. Scherzo, III. Adagio molto espressivo, and IV. Allegro appassionato. Jaime Jesús Pérez explained that the quartet performing this recital consists of two men and two women: violinists Antonio García Egea, Mirian Jódar Gabarrón, Cristina Regojo Huertos, and Adrián López Agudo from Benidorm. Of all of them, the councillor stated that they are “musicians of exceptional talent who have performed on the world’s most iconic stages, such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Musikverein in Vienna.”
Finally, the head of Culture invited the public to “take advantage of the opportunities this series offers to discover and enjoy classical music at home, without having to travel, free of charge, and with performers of exceptional quality and calibre.”
