Elche Park hosts this market of local and artisanal products today
The Fiestas Committee celebrates again on October 9 with 'Fira de Productes Típics de la Terra'
As every year, coinciding with the celebration of October 9th, the "Typical Land Products Market" opened its doors this afternoon. Organised by the Commission for Major Patronal Festivities, it takes place in Elche Park. The mayor, Toni Pérez; the councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros; and the Festival Queens, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, were responsible for opening the Fair. Previously, and as is tradition on the Day of the Valencian Community, the Queens and their courts of honour performed the "ball del peuet" to the rhythm of "xirimita i tabalet" at Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, before the attentive gaze of residents and tourists. This traditional dance took place immediately after the end of the institutional plenary session on October 9th.
After the opening of the Market, the delegation, which also included numerous members of the municipal council, toured the various stalls selling artisanal and local products, such as basketry and wickerwork, salted fish, baked goods and pastries, ceramics, mistela, and chocolates, among others. In addition, "rodabalcones" bearing the image of Our Lady of Sorrows and Saint James are also for sale, and the Commission's foremen have a counter at affordable prices.
With this initiative, the Commission aims to raise funds for the upcoming Festes Majors Patronals (Major Patron Saint Festivities), which will be held in the city from November 8 to 12.
