The Festes Majors Patronals Committee holds another ‘Euro Marathon’ to raise funds for November’s festivities
Throughout the day, residents and visitors will be able to take part in this charitable initiative, which is being held on Tomás Ortuño Street
The 2026 Festes Majors Patronals Committee launched a new edition of the traditional ‘Euro Marathon’ today, a popular charity initiative aimed at raising funds to help cover the costs of the Festes Majors Patronals celebrations in November.
At 10:00 a.m. on Tomás Ortuño Street, next to l’Hort de Colón, the Queens of the festivities, Laura Ivars and Carmen Guillem, flanked by Mayor Toni Pérez, Councillor for Festivities Mariló Cebreros, other members of the Municipal Corporation, Regional MP José Ramón González de Zárate and Senator Agustín Almodóbar, cut the ribbon to launch the initiative. The queens then placed the first coins, beginning a line of copper, nickel and brass stretching along the length of the street. Also in attendance were, among others, Comissió president Ramón Cano and representatives of other local festive organisations.
Each linear metre can accommodate 43 one-euro coins. As every year, the challenge is to achieve the greatest possible distance, which would provide a significant financial boost to the coffers of the Comissió, the organisation responsible for staging the festivities.
The activity will continue throughout the day until 8:00 p.m. Any resident or visitor wishing to contribute can come to Tomás Ortuño Street and help create this charitable line of coins, which, as every year, will aim to break its own length record.
