Concert by the UMB Chamber Group for the 699th anniversary of the founding of Benidorm

09 May 2024
Concierto del Grupo de Cámara de la UMB por el 699 aniversario de la fundación de Benidorm

As part of the commemorative events of the celebration of the six hundred and ninety-ninth anniversary of the founding of Benidorm, the City Hall Assembly Hall has hosted a tribute concert to the city by the Chamber Group of the Benidorm Musical Union (UMB), organized by the Grup Carta de Poblament of the Penyes Association 'Verge del Sofratge' with the support of the Departments of Culture and Festivals.

With the room packed, at 8:00 p.m. the recital began, attended by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, the councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other councillors. Also present were the queens of Festes Majors Patronals 2024, Valentina Almodóbar and Laia Zamora; the presidents of the Commission, the Penyes Association and the Carta de Poblament Group, Maria Dolores Cano, Jaume Cortés and Mari Luz Navarro; and the one who will maintain the representation of the Population Charter in 2024, Esperanza Rostoll.

Under the baton of its director, Rafa Gómez Parra, the instrumental ensemble began the performance with 'Concerto for Bassoon number 35 in B flat', by Antonio Vivaldi in which Mari Carmen López García acted as a soloist. Next, she performed Antonin Dvorak's 'Nocturne in B flat major'; and 'Meditation for Thaïs. An adaptation for cello by Jules Massenet, with Ximo García Sivera as soloist.

The third piece that was played in the municipal hall was the 'Serenade Number 13 for Strings' by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the audition came to an end with the 'Concerto for two Cellos in G minor, RV535' by Antonio Vivaldi. Ximo García Sivera and Jacobo Navarro Palomares have participated as a soloist.

Continuing with the celebration of the day, the City Council has illuminated the emblematic Castell and the Paseo de Levante in blue and white, the colours of Benidorm.
The commemorative events of the anniversary will continue today, Thursday, at 6:00 p.m., in Elche Park, where the Independent Association of Merchants of Benidorm (AICO), with the collaboration of the Departments of Commerce and Festivals, will install the now traditional market ' Benidorm Medieval' which will remain open until Sunday.

On Saturday, the Grup Carta de Poblament at 9:00 p.m. will perform at Plaça de Sant Jaume the 'Atorgament de la Carta de Poblament', based on a text by Pasqual Almiñana, which stages the moment in which Admiral Bernat de Sarrià granted the Carta Pobla to this unique enclave that, 699 years later, is the Benidorm that we all know today.
